ARTS INSIGHTS 12/13 Season

Education & Outreach at The Broad Stage!

ARTS INSIGHTS Education & Outreach at The Broad Stage! is a place for educators, artists and students to play and learn together. Our goal is to give each student access to world-class artists and performances that will transform and expand their understanding of the world. Experiencing and reacting to art is key to building and inspiring active, engaged citizens. We’re proud to be working with educators and community leaders to offer intimate and inspiring cultural experiences of the highest caliber across a range of artistic disciplines including dance, theater, music and film.

All ARTS INSIGHTS activities are offered for free or low cost. The program’s five initiatives provide diverse audiences with a variety of accessible ways to engage in the performing arts. ARTS INSIGHTS engages over 10,000 learners of all ages annually.

  • Student Matinees invite students to the theatre and provide the opportunity for exploration into the historical and literary contexts of a performance or the current events surrounding a lecture presentation. Discovery Guides are provided to teachers that support core curriculum and VAPA standards with pre and post show lessons.
  • In School Workshops are given to support selected performances. Teaching Artists bring arts education into the classroom, supporting teachers in their efforts to develop thoughtful, intelligent students who ask questions, reflect on their experiences and make connections between art and life. Every Arts Insights event is different; ask what educator resources or in school workshop component accompany your show.
  • Family and Community Events are a place for learners of all ages to enjoy the theatre together. These are special events designed to teach and delight. You can come with your children or come on your own…these events will be enjoyable and meaningful for everyone and are free or low cost.
  • Master Classes encourage student artists to take the next leap in their careers. Talented students are given the opportunity to have a meaningful dialogue with masters in their field while being critiqued, encouraged and inspired. Master Classes are given before a full audience, creating another learning opportunity for those observing.
  • Lifelong Learning opportunities come in a variety of formats. Pre and post show lectures, talkbacks with the artists and full lecture presentations, open rehearsals, and dialogues with leading cultural figures take place throughout the season to enrich the educational experience for all.

  • No buses? No problem

The Broad Stage recognizes that one of the primary obstacles to attending these events is the cost of getting there. We are happy to offer bus transportation funding for schools and organizations to attend education and outreach events here at The Broad Stage.

If your school or organization cannot get here without our help please let us know on your application form that you need assistance and we’ll be in touch to discuss bus reimbursement. All funds allocated based on need.
